The "Run Forrest Run" Pep Talk

This year Gary and I are training to do a 1/2 Marathon in April with a lot of other Forrest Family members and some friends. I also decided to participate in a mini triathlon that some ladies in the Relief Society are doing. Tonight, I went to train on the swimming part of this. This is only the second time in my whole life that I have swum laps. So, my friend said, "Let's just do the whole 1/2 mile tonight." That was 18 laps back and forth. Well, I started and I wanted to stop after about ten. I thought, "well, that is more than we did last time, so I am good." My friend lapped me about three times. I took a breather while I watched my friend keep going. Then I thought, "okay, I will keep going." So, I did and as I was swimming it dawned on me.......it doesn't matter if I take longer than my friend to swim this, it doesn't matter if I stop for a minute to rest(that did help) and it doesn't matter if I don't really swim all that well. What mattered tonight is that I didn't leave that pool without finishing what I started doing. Now, I can say that I swam 1/2 a mile. So, that pumped me up for the 1/2 marathon because for me it doesn't matter if I have to walk a little bit, it doesn't matter if I take forever to run it, heck, it doesn't even matter if I am the last one across the finish line. What matters is I set out to do it and I did it. Then I can be one of those people that said, "Oh yeah, I totally ran a 1/2 marathon." So, for all you Forrest's and friends of Forrest's that wanted to do this from the beginning, let's just do it. Who cares if you are not training every day and you can only train every now and then and who cares if you don't think you are as fast as lightening. Let's go out there and have fun and after April 12 (or whatever the date is). We can say that we did something that not everybody in the world can do! What do ya say? Ready......and.......Break!

Hey I'm running a 1/2 marathon in May and you said everything that I needed to hear. I've been sucking on my training and you gave a good pep talk. I think my fear is that I'm going to get picked up by that "fat buss" anyway Thanks Kellie, I feel like I can train a little bit harder now. Good luck with all your races. I would love to do the triathlon. That sounds like fun.

KELLIE!! I LOVED IT! I copied it and forwarded it to James, Meg, Raquel, and Brigo. I am so excited to run it. I used to get down about not training as good as you Ms. All-American, but the fact that I accomplished 4 miles the other day was HUGE! It will be so fun to run the 1/2 together and have our families at the sides cheering us on!!

WAY TO GO on the swimming, that seriously ROCKS! Maybe I will do a triathon after this 1/2. Do you have a bike? Do you have to have a special bike? What about those pains from riding a bike too long? Maybe I should just call ya huh?! :)
