This year my first official girl's weekend (okay technically, my second if you count Breckenridge, Co) was in
Christiansburg, VA. Only, we flew into Charlotte, North Carolina which is like two and half hours from
Christiansburg, so we hung out there for awhile. Whatever, okay.
So, this is Bar-B-Q King recently featured on Drive In's, Diners, and Dives. Gary said we had to go there, so we did. Yeah, that is me alright under the sign.

We were being so spastic that they invited us into the actual kitchen to eat. It's a "drive-in" which means there really isn't anywhere to sit inside, so they made us a spot. Then this one guy kept trying to sell us food. He succeeded and that kept us super quiet for at least 20 minutes. We were starving. I think I am also used to trying to eat my food real fast before someone asks me to do something, so I ate and ate, no one asked me for anything, so I kept eating. The fried chicken was absolutely fabulous.

That lady is the owner, she has worked there for like 43 years or something. That is amazing. I wonder if she is sick of the food.

Well, after we weren't funny anymore at Kings Bar-B-Q. We went site seeing. We checked out a plantation not to far from where we ate in Charlotte. This is
Latta Plantation. We like to call it, A
Latta Plantation. That is the plantation house. In there I learned why people said that old phrase, "Sleep Tight, Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite." Uh-huh! Very Interesting stuff.

This was the house the slaves lived in and next to it is a patch of cotton. I never have seen cotton in its true form, it was really cool, not much different then a cotton ball, except with pointy seeds in it and not anywhere near as soft. But other than that, just like a cotton ball.

Here is some more of A
Latta Plantation.

This was a lake in the same park as the plantation. Okay, see if you know what this is from...
"Why didn't you write? I wasn't over for me!" "I did write, I wrote you every day for a year! It wasn't over for me, it's still not over!" (a little sigh, lots of rain, big kiss) Name that movie? No cheaters from Hollie's blog.

Then that night we had a nice little dinner at Texas Road House. By little, I mean big and by nice I mean they forgot to place my order. Which did mean that I got my dinner for free. That makes two free dinners in a row from Texas Road House! The first time, I found a string in my salad. A big long white string, maybe from tying up uncooked meat, it's a wonder
I lived through that meal. The things I will do for free food.
Mckenzie's favorite place was right between Chris and I. She is a sweetie.

So, I try to make Ryan
memorably part of this trip, but I am thinking he doesn't like his picture taken. Let's find out.
Maybe I am too slow, let's try again.

Okay, here is a picture of Hollie and Ryan, whoops, I missed Ryan, let me try again.

Okay, so here is one of Ryan eating and avoiding. Yes, I said "Avoiding", isn't that term in one of those books you love to read, Ryan?

So, I keep trying, I am not a quitter. Pucker up! Yeah, no dice.

Chris isn't afraid. I know she probably won't like this picture, but I put it on this blog because of .......

THIS! Hello! I had to ride the Saddle. Thanks, Chris! So embarrassing. At least they told everybody I was turning 21, instead of turning 35. Like I care. I am not afraid of getting old. Well, not super afraid. I would like to be one of those older people who read a lot of books, that sounds like fun. So, back to the saddle....here I am...
SSSSSSSSasssy! I think I hunch when I am embarrassed. I certainly do turn red.

The next day we went to Stake Conference. That is Right, I said Stake Conference! Then we went and took a look at Virginia Tech. It was a very pretty campus.
This is my friend "Gary, the Snail" Gary likes to go to
TarGOT! I like "Gary, the Snail"

The Virginia Tech students were making ribbons for the
NIU students with that horrible shooting on Valentine's day. So, Sad. I thought this was cool because that is what we all do in hard times, we eventually prevail, right? Gotta keep moving.

It was cold there on campus, so we went into a building and they were about to start a concert and we said, "Hey, that would be cool." You wanna go?" Yeah, I'll go" "Okay, let's go". So, we did and it was cool until we got bored and jumped ship early. I still don't have the attention span for too much of that. But, it was fun.

This was the building right next to were the concert was. Look familiar? It was the building that guy shot up. So sad. There was a memorial not too far away and I thought I put the picture of it on here, but I guess I didn't.

That night ended in a game of
Tripoly, burritos, strawberry crepes, and a massage. It was awesome. I did manage to finish reading one book during the plane ride out and back. That was awesome. Yes, I say awesome a lot and I like it. I did have a fabulous time leaving Hollie and Chris in the dust while shopping. I am a speed shopper and apparently, I am not that fun to shop with and I say this because I have heard it more than once. Sue me. My life is in fast forward all the time. That is just how I roll.
Thanks Hollie and Ryan for the good time. Ryan even let us have his mini-mattress off his bed, so we could sleep more comfortably on the sleeper sofa. What a guy!
I could have used about one to two more days, but what are you going to do. Good Times!
Gary did a great job with the kids. The house was spotless, the kids were bathed and everyone was happy. Thanks, Gary! You Rock!

Holy crap Kellie! I had no idea you took such a fun trip. You are one of my top 5 people to vacation with cause you are so fun and easy going and find everything so fascinating. My favorite was your explanation of the cotton ball... 'It's just like a cotton ball, except it has seeds in it and little thorns and not as soft, but other than that just like a cotton ball' ha ha. You are hillarious! Ok... and no dishwasher for the first 6 years... and Isabel must have been born by then. Girl, I admire you more and more every day!! LOVE YOU SISTER!
Sounds like so much fun, Kellie. How about you come to Utah and we do something fun here? Oh, I know, it's not as fun here! HAHA! Hey and happy birthday!!!
Good Times...Good Times! You sure know how to capture the moments on paper or computer? Anyway, thanks for the fun time! Where are we going next year?
Sure, I will come to Utah. We do stuff like...giving people directions to places and tell them to turn by the church and just have them assume we are talking about the Mormon church, but then really be talking about the Catholic church. That would be some good fun.
You do remember what I am talking about, huh, Darcy?
Kellie-
What a fun trip! A girls weekend sounds like a far, distant dream right now....ahhh. I think Darcy is right, you should come to Utah. It would be so fun to see you guys!
How about all of you come to Texas! I'm not in UT anymore so that bans any fun girl nights in UT if I am not there!
Kellie~ You do say awesome alot! and I think it is awesome.
You do hunch when you're embarrassed and I can hear your laugh right now. Also, awesome. The movie is "The Notebook" also awesome. And what else? I don't know but it sounds like you had an "AWESOME" time! Hey, remember when I lived in CO and we had you guys over for dinner and I spelled with cookies on a plate. Welcome 4-est family! That too was awesome! Also, I did get your message a couple of days later. Sorry I haven't called back. I've been busy and I spend entirely too much time on the computer looking at everyones blogs. Talk to you soon though.
yeah, I remember the cookies. That WAS Awesome! Remember that time when we went dancing and Kim's sister was cowboy ropin' that 50 year old guy with the curly hair. Now, THAT was also awesome.
